This weekend, June 6 – 7, 2015, is the 16th annual Arts on the Green Festival, a juried fine arts and crafts festival in LaGrange, Kentucky. Arts on the Green features some of the finest original handcrafted paintings, photography, sculptures, ceramics, mixed media, jewelry, candles, glass, special foods and soaps, metal, wood and fiber. If you’re looking for something special and unique, this is definitely where you want to be this weekend!
Not only will you be intrigued by the wide variety of art available in the community, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet over 120 highly talented artists, both local and national, including featured artists who also exhibit at the St. James Court Art Show, Cherokee Triangle, and Mellwood, among others.
The Arts Association of Oldham County feels art is for all ages and they encourage younger artists to enter the Arts on the Green Note Card Contest. Two winners will be selected from both the 8 Years and Under, and the 9 Years and Older age groups. Prizes are awarded at their fall annual meeting, plus their art work is featured on their AOG (Arts on the Green) note cards for 2015. The best of the best Oldham County student art work is featured in The Emerging Artist Booth. Art works that are included feature Oldham County High School students, Arts Association scholarship winners for 2016, and last years’ AOG Kid’s note card winners.
Awesome food vendors are available throughout the show serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between, including assorted sandwiches, Greek foods, and BBQ. Then, stop the craves with delicious candied nuts, soft serve ice cream, funnel cakes and more, so get ready to get your calories on! Sit down and take a rest while you enjoy a cold beer or sip on a great glass of wine while listening to Americana Music. Americana Music will be on both days, performed on the Woodsongs Coffeehouse Stage, hosted by Tim Curtis, and sponsored by Oldham County Parks and Recreation under the tent. There will also be free face painting and other children’s activities so be sure to bring the kids along!
While you’re there, take a moment to visit the Oldham County History Center – “Colonial Trade Faire” located adjacent to Arts on the Green. The Faire exhibits vendors in the 1700’s in authentic costumes and selling fares of that time period. It is well worth the trip back in time to visit! Also be sure to wander through Historic Downtown LaGrange and enjoy everything it has to offer.
On Saturday from 5-7 p.m., you can relax to the traditional “wine down” after the show. Music continues during Happy Hour at the 2nd Street Gazebo. Enjoy the evening with both old and new friends; it’s easy to make new friends while you’re there!
Make it a destination to enjoy the arts, food, libations and music, and remember to pick up a raffle ticket to win your own beautiful art collection which is donated by their Arts on the Green artists. Arts Association of Oldham County and Arts on the Green appreciates their art-loving volunteers for their enthusiasm and hospitality that continually supports the vision of a quality art festival. These volunteers work very hard behind the scenes and throughout the year to make this a premier Arts Festival in the region.
