The Jeffersontown Veterans Memorial Park is located in Jeffersontown, KY on the southeast end of Louisville on Taylorsville Road, and is the brainchild of the G.I. Joe American Legion Post #244 and the city of J-Town, was brought to us in 1996. The park opens and 6:00 a.m. and closes at 11:00 p.m. each night and is pet friendly. You’ll need to keep your pets on a leash, as leash laws are enforced, and be sure to clean up after your pet to keep it enjoyable to everyone!
The beautiful 27 acre park, which honors our Nation’s Veterans and reminds us of the commitment and sacrifice that so many Americans have made and still make to ensure our nation’s freedom, also includes a nice playground and picnic areas so you and your family can further enjoy your trip to honor our nation’s veterans.
As you enter the park, an area to the right of the main entrance is a 60’ bronze colored flagpole and “The Walk of Veterans”, made up of 6000 brick pavers. These pavers are available for inscription to honor individual veterans.
At a cost of only $75.00 (and is tax-deductible), the brick pavers can be purchased by the public to honor any American who has honorably served or is currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. The veteran, nor the purchaser, need not be a resident of Jeffersontown, nor even the state of Kentucky. All inscription brick pavers must be received by April 1st of each year and will be installed by Memorial Day, or you can purchase before September 1st to have the paver installed before Veterans Day. You can get more information about these engraved pavers by going to their website at www.gijoe244.us or call them at (502) 548-3143.
There are lots of other really cool pieces of military equipment, many of which you can get up and personal with, so your kids and grandkids will love this part of the park as well, giving you the opportunity of explaining to them just how important our veterans are to us.
